Hot New Products for 2017

It’s hard to believe, but we’re already two-thirds of the way through 2016 and things at the Charcoal Companion headquarters are busier than ever. Creating innovative new products is a multifaceted process that involves thorough communication between all of the departments within our company. Often this process can be a challenge, but when a product finally emerges we’re all very proud and excited for it to enter the barbecue world. This year is shaping up to be one of our best years ever, so it’s time to share with you some of our favorite new products for 2017.

Hasselback Potato Slicing Rack

Originally created in Sweden back in the 1940s, Hasselback potatoes are increasing in popularity. Hasselback potatoes are made by cutting the potato vertically in thin slices from top to bottom. The cuts stop just before the bottom of the potato, so that it remains intact for roasting. Melted butter is placed in between the slices, which helps with flavor and also to cook the center of the potato.

The main problem with Hasselback potatoes is that the cuts can be hard to make. Not only is it hard to make each slice the same thickness, but it’s very easy to cut all the way through the potato. With the Hasselback Potato Slicing Rack you simply place the potato onto the cutting block, slide the cutting guide over the top, and slice away!

Plank Flexi-Basket

Planking is a great way to impart subtle wood flavor into many commonly grilled foods. Typically planks are soaked anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes before grilling. Once the planks are thoroughly saturated, they’re drained and loaded with food and placed over indirect heat for grilling. While planked food can be super tasty, there’s one problem; planking doesn’t permit any searing on meats or vegetables. To fix this problem, we created the Plank Flexi-Basket. Simply soak the plank like you normally would, load it with food, and secure it in the basket. This allows you to flip the plank (and the food) so that you can get searing and more wood flavor on the surface of your food.

Smoked Log Book

Grilling is fairly easy, but smoking is an art. Smoking requires precise timing and temperature control. Even the most seasoned grill gurus can make a mistake when smoking a large brisket or rack of ribs, so to improve the process our grill expert Steven Raichlen created a smoked food log book. The book is essentially a journal to record your successful (and disastrous!) smoking adventures. Now you’ll be able to remember exactly what you did to cook that killer smoked salmon that everyone loved!

Last but not least, we have the Safe-Scrape™ Non-Bristle Grill Cleaning Tool! For many years grill brushes have been the primary tool to clean your grill, but now we have something that’s a little more worry free. The Safe-Scrape can be used even on a hot grill, and the heat and pressure from use will actually mold your scraping paddle to create a custom fit! The more you use it, the better it works.
