Local News: Whole Foods Coming to Gilman Street?

Now that we’ve pretty much settled into our new Berkeley offices, we at The Companion Group were excited to hear about a possible new neighbor: Whole Foods!

As you can imagine, we need to make grocery runs for the office quite a bit. Whether it’s bags of pre-made pizza dough so we can test out our new pizzacraft products, or a fresh slab of ribs to put on an experimental rack, or just something to eat for lunch, members of The Companion Group can often be seen toting a Trader Joe’s or Berkeley Bowl bag into the main kitchen.

But according to BerkeleySide, grocery shopping is about to get a whole lot more convenient. While it still has yet to be confirmed, reports are that Whole Foods is moving into the Office Depot space at 1025 Gilman Street — across the street from our office! This will be the second Whole Foods in Berkeley, joining the one at Telegraph and Ashby. This location is markedly smaller than most large grocery retailers, but Whole Foods is said to be exploring the option of opening smaller stores, which cost less to open and to run, and are profitable by selling only their top performers.

Whole Foods is expected to announce new stores next month. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that it results in a new fast-and-easy shopping stop for us!
